Some of the most popular art galleries within Puerto Vallarta include the Arte Popular Mexicano Galeria, the Galeria des Artistes, the Galeria Olinala and the Latin American Art Gallery (Galeria Arte Latinoamericano), all of which have something quite unique to offer, ranging from traditional pieces by Huichol Indians to large contemporary canvases.

Indicating the popularity of the arts within Puerto Vallarta, each year in the peak holiday season and again during the winter months, around ten art galleries offer 'Art Walks' through the city centre, guiding visitors through the main art district and visiting the galleries, all of which are free of charge. Also available are Art Studio Tours, where you are able to view the actual artist's workshops and studios. Puerto Vallarta's main art galleries are explained further below.


Arte Popular Mexicano Galeria

Located within the heart of central Puerto Vallarta, the Arte Popular Mexicano Galeria is known for its many locally produced handicrafts and art works, created using traditional methods and often inspired by nature itself. Amongst the most popular items available for purchase include ceramics, carved wooden sculptures, traditional paintings and papier maché creations.

Galeria Arte Latinoamericano (Latin American Art Gallery)

Puerto Vallarta's Galeria Arte Latinoamericano is a great place to pick up quality watercolour paintings and is full of Mexican character and charm. Many local artists have created the paintings on exhibit and most are contemporary in style and appearance.

Galeria Olinala

Traditional beaded yarn paintings by Huichol Indians are the main highlight within the Galeria Olinala and are beautifully constructed. These paintings are often inspired by animals and natural scenes, before being covered in resin and wax. Other attractions include tribal masks, local handicrafts and many reasonably priced gifts.

Museo Ernesto Munoz Acosta (Ernesto Munoz Acosta Museum)

The Museo Munoz Acosta is located in downtown Puerto Vallarta and offers a rare chance to enjoy some unusual contemporary art works created by local artist Ernesto Munoz Acosta. Also exhibited are pieces by other acclaimed Mexican artists, such as both Sergio Bustamante and Manuel Lepe, along with traditional wax-covered yarn paintings by the Huichol Indians.

Galeria Pacifico

This centrally located gallery is worthy of some time and filled with interesting and appealing sculptures. Local artists are always actively promoted at the Galeria Pacifico and form the basis for the majority of the changing exhibits. Those with a budget will find a selection of reasonably priced prints to choose from.

Galeria des Artistes

Various art works are well displayed within the Galeria des Artistes and include paintings, sculptures and a variety of traditional antiquities, displayed against brick walls. Within the gallery visitors will be able to enjoy an array of contemporary art works by many prominent and up-and-coming Mexican artists. The paintings by Evelyn Boren are a definite highlight.

Galeria Dante

The Galeria Dante is known for its elegant bronze figurines and reproductions. Around 100 different Mexican artists exhibit sculptures here, together with contemporary paintings by artists from all around the world. This is the biggest art gallery within the whole of Puerto Vallarta and includes some very large pieces, with the works for sale constantly changing and being updated.
